The Media Center hosts a variety of opportunities for youth to gain hands-on video production experience in a professional setting. No matter what your level of experience, we can find something for you!
Apply now! We are always accepting applications to our youth programs. They will be reviewed on an ongoing basis according to the program schedule. Please see below for more specific information about our programs and the application proccesses.
The Youth Advisory Council is made up of ten high school students who live or attend school in the Media Center’s service area. The purpose of this 10-month program is three-fold. Members learn to:
produce video content to air on the Media Center’s channels
be critical consumers of media
act as Youth Advisors to the Media Center and the community
Members meet weekly at the Media Center to learn studio and field production, editing on Final Cut Pro, and gain skills in integrating video with the Internet through the use of blogs and websites, producing, interviewing, storyboarding, aesthetics, creativity, project planning, time management, and teamwork. Members can earn community service hours or school credit.
The internship program is open to high school and college students who live or attend school in the Media Center’s service area and have a minimum 1-year of experience in video production classes. Interns work independently, completing 5-20 hours/week through a variety of tasks:
Internships are offered on a semester basis. Fall Internshps begin in mid September and applications are due by the first week of September. Spring Internships begin in mid January and applications are due by the first week of January. Summer Internships begin in late June and applications are due by the fist week of June. For students who need more flexibility with their schedule, but still want gain video production experience, you can
become a volunteer. No previous experience is required, but volunteers can learn skills through our classes. Once certified, you can make use of our facilities by crewing in the studio, renting field production equipment, using our editing suites (complete with Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Photoshop, and more), all whenever it is convenient for you. Volunteers can earn community service hours.
Digiquest is open to students ages 11-17, and runs in weekly sessions Monday through Friday, 9:30 - 3:30 throughout the summer. Take advantage of the unique and exciting opportunity to create—or star in—your own television program using professional production equipment. Work as part of a production crew in our studio. Take a digital camcorder out into the field and then edit your footage into a video short with Apple's Final Cut Pro, or explore the digital realm of movies, music, and motion with leading video, sound, and animation software. No previous video experience is required.
